I imagine a DSLR with a nice macro lens would be able to do equally good, if not a bit better.
picrel is a crop at full size of a 3600dpi .tif scan with no sharpening or any other processing. it's expired FP4+ that got quite pop'd grain at dev. the opticfilm can easily pick up the grain quite sharply.
