Buy a color wheel(incredibly cheap) and try to look out for colors, how they contrast/compliment one another.

If you use Lightroom, you can use a mask to keep your subject's color consistent.
Start observing light, hold your hand out to see what direction and how harsh it is.
Use pinterest for inspiration and look up other photographers, emulate their style and develop your own from theirs as a starting point.
The question is what do you want to shoot? Portraits, nature, street, or lifestyle?
