Once two points cannot be differentiated anymore, you have reached the maximum amount of resolution the lens can achieve. Adding more pixels on the sensor that's capturing the image that the lens produces, does absolutely nothing. You cannot produce information out of thin air. And the sensor's only way to receive information is through the lens. If the lens does not provide sufficient information, adding information recipients (pixels on the sensor) cannot lead to more information overall. It's physically impossible.
