Imho, it's stacked. I believe that same lens and equipment is used in his work. On atlasofplaces site you have shots of his that are only shot using hyperfocal focusing, those show blurry foreground, overall softness, and burry backgrounds. Then you have several that clearly stand out in sharpness across the whole frame, those few are focus stacked.
