Powershot G1 is a strong choice, great IR characteristics as well, there aren't many strong old pocket digital cameras out there that have a long reach, the Mavica FD-95 comes to mind for a long reach but large camera, internal image stabilization as well, compatible with memory cards instead of floppy, they are large cameras but not dense, so they tend to be light. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-F717 is good as well, you should look at the F-series, similar to Mavica in a sense, but newer. This is a recent study I did.
