>>3127726Primarily planted in the 1930s, the forests encapsulating the Zone Rouge around Verdun were designed to prevent intrepid explorers, large livestock, and farmers from making use of the UXO inundated land. In addition to the millions of tons of unexploded ordnance, the forest is also the final resting place of over 100,000 missing soldiers. The trees are so thick, they've created a literal wall surround the Zone Rouge.
