It seems like a used F or FA50/2.8 macro could be much more useful for me as I rarely photograph scenes that would benefit from such wide apertures. Those are also a lot cheaper as you said.
I like the test shots from the HD FA 50/1.4 a lot. It's not super sharp but it has a pleasant look. In fact a bit similar as my Super-Takumar 50/1.4 but without the slight yellow tint.
