It took me a long time to decide to buy this lens after some of the reviews talked about how slow the focus was. Ultimately, I'm glad I bought it despite the fact that the focus is in fact slow. What I did not see many of the reviews mention is the fact that at an fstop of 1.2, the exposures are incredibly short and in broad daylight might wind up with 1/4000 to 1/8000 of a second at iso 1000. You will likely want to use a polarizer or neutral density filter to make sure your exposure is one that your camera can actually do. Keep in mind this is 85mm and not 50mm or wider. You will require some space between you and the object you are photographing and at f/1.2, the amount that will be in focus vs out of focus is pretty small. I recently took a picture of my wife and I with a remote shutter release and she was a few inches in front of me. She was in focus and I was slightly blurred. I think it is an excellent lens if you have a bit of time to focus and compose your subject matter and want the best bokeh available. If you can live with f/1.4 and want a faster exposure, they make a 24mm with f/1.4 that is a good lense, but that one I would not use for portraits.
