I wrote an article a while back when ukraine was getting serius about the peace talks. Pointing out that in this unique situation, peace can not be enforced by the government, they cant tell their army to go home.
Since up to 60% of the active forces started fighting in paramilitary groups, at the end of the day they are still loyal to them and their causes. treat of imprisonment or shit from the government, does not scare them. They already made peace with laying down their lives and lively hoods for the war before they were forced into the army. If Ukraine withdraw, a good number of people from the army will just rejoin the para groups. which would result in a war on three fronts.
