Don't officially study anything or anyone beyond the fundamentals. Forget photographers names. Become a student of pictures you like. Figure out what it is that you like about them. Framing, lighting, subject play, theme.
I can tell you why that picture you posted is bad though. Its a generic weekend family type shot. The kind that dad shoots on his disposable while the kids pull faces and he gets angry that he's already wasted two exposures. You've captured actors in a well rehearsed play prepared to have their passport shots taken. There is no unexpected candidness, no particular subject and no theme.
