If you want it for speed, be ready for pretty low sharpness wide open.
Somebody once told me that it's quite good on crop as a portrait lens, and I can confim. Wide aperture, tight fov (~90mm equiv. on APS-C) and the skin smoothing property of low sharpness allow for some nice portraits.
