Friendly suggestion: if you do decide to study portraits and headshots, don't let yourself get discouraged by all of the expensive equipment the pros use.
Start with a speedlite. Yougnuo is great, like everyone's already told you. For about $300, you can buy three YN 560IVs, plus a YN560-TX radio transmitter, plus a 5-in-1 reflector kit, plus a couple of umbrellas (bigger is better).
I don't buy fancy light stands, I use $20 tripods for light stands. With a power drill and two fishhook screws, you can add an umbrella mount - pic related.
