>>4245929I have both an a7RII and the FE 50mm 1.8. Here's what I've learned after a year with the camera:
-The FE 50mm is garbage. Tons of chromatic aberration, no sharpness AND no zoom. I bought the Tamron 28-200mm and I've never needed to use a different lens, although it is bulky. Trust me, you're going to get much better picture quality from a different lens. I have attached a pic from my FE 50mm, all the whites are fuzzy and purple. Please get a different lens, it will make your photos 10x better.
-You've probably already noticed, but yes the battery life is shit. Just switch it off between shots.
-The autofocus is good enough for wide autofocus, you don't need to do the zone or spot autofocus.
-You're going to accidentally hit the exposure dial with your finger, check it periodically to make sure you're not shooting at +3 EV.
-Shoot in burst. It's a 12-bit photo as opposed to a 14-bit image, but 42MP is more than enough to work with in post. Same with how wide you are. It's easier to shoot a bit wider than usual and crop down to 8k/4k/whatever in post. Also, you can move your ISO up a bit higher than a 24MP camera both because of the sensor size and denoising looks better.
-I don't know how experienced you are, but since you don't know exactly which lens you got, I'll assume you're a bit newer. The best bang for your buck in terms of improving the look of the images is getting a fill flash. Night and day (pun intended) difference between images.
