Can you take a stuffed animal and get a sharp picture of it right now?
Most cameras and most lenses can take a sharp picture in SOME conditions.
If you can't then you need to evaluate why. You need to up your shutter speed to at least the zoom you're shooting at, even if the subject isn't moving your camera is moving in your hand. In Body Image Stabilization and Lens Stabilization only help so much and the further away the subject the blurrier it will get. Depending on the available light you might have to crank the ISO beyond acceptable limits and just accept that the picture will come out noisy so that you can keep the shutter speed up high enough. You should also try manual mode with focus peaking to see if the problem is the autofocus behavior of your specific camera/lens combo. Play with autofocus settings until you get better results.
