What about it doesn't work compositionally?
I thought the half/half was a nice gimmick and the diagonal divide of the right hand side with the shadow too.
I've pumped up the exposure, but I must say i prefered it a bit darker because i like the red and green on the left side when they are darker, so what I did instead is put two gradient filters on to leave the sky as it is and brightened up the wood and the bottom half of the left side.
I think it looks better like this, no?
