>>3044491I think you're overrating modern lenses. The best era for lens design was the 1930s and 50s in germany. The Kodak Retina lenses are some of the very best 135 lenses to ever exist. I don't think FD lenses are the best but they don't generally have a ton of CA.
I own a Zeiss FE 24-70 f/4 for E mount. It's very good and I've never owned a Zeiss prime so maybe those are a ton better but I just doubt, all else equal that it's going to make that much of a difference after the picture has been taken.
Anyway, my point is that no one looks at a Bresson print and says "Wow, look at how sharp it is!".
