>>3236719Well, when you are looking to shoot with a camera like this in 2018 you've got to look at it from something beyond the technical perspectives. I could see a few reasons why you would want to shoot with a D1.
1. It's in your hands. As they say, the best camera in the world is the one you have with you. If you're poor but still want a DSLR and you happen to come across one for a cheap enough price then have at it. However, I wouldn't pay over $100 for a whole kit.
2. It occupies a special place in your mind as a photographer. Maybe you saw it in a magazine when you were a child or teenager and thought the idea of owning one was magical. Maybe you want to finally own one to complete the circle of that desire you had a long time ago.
3. Similarly, maybe you want to shoot with the same kind of camera the photagraphers you looked up to in the early 2000s used.
4. In a lot of ways a camera like the D1 is a true "Digital SLR". That's it. It's an SLR that stores photos digitally instead of on film. That's it. Modern cameras are more powerful than desktop computers of the 90s. Shooting with the earliest generation DSLRs feels like shooting a roll of film since you will be lucky to get 36 RAW photos off of the charge of an old battery. And with limited ISO range you have to be more creative and careful.
5. You just want to be different. Does this make you a hipster? Probably. But come on, we're photographers: we are hipsters by nature.
Is a D1h, D1x, D2h, or Canon 1D more convenient? Yes, easily. Is it more fun? Opinions vary.
