Think about it, put a pencil on a piece of paper the size of a 35mm negative and ever so slightly jitter the pencil and do the same thing on a 8x10" piece of paper, the mark on the 35mm physically takes up a larger percentage of the surface area on the negative than it would on 8x10. This is why you can hand hold 4x5" cameras and still get useable results.
