>>3268122It is just an aperture iris in reverse. More apt here since mirror lenses have a big round thing in the center of the front, as you can see in the OP. If you strap an actual reflecting telescope/catadioptric telescope which can be far larger than 3.7" in diameter, you'd be amazed by how much you can obscure the view and still see, "through," things.
