Need photography/camera advice please

Trying to take detailed photo's of small-ish objects with my iPhone 12 pro and they are turning out shitty. I have a very bright LED shop light in my office and have made a makeshift lightbox, but this level of light seems to make these weird shadow areas appear on the iphone (these aren't there in real life).

If I need to just buy a nice DSLR camera, i'm ok with spending ~$500 USD but I don't know if my problem is "camera" or "lens" related. Will attach pics as example
