If you want "content" then you have to look at it within the context of time in which it was published. He was a part of exhibition called New Topographics "Man altered landscape". These were all new constructions and when a modern man see a landscape he doesn't see a landscape untouched by man. What he see is this

With interior shots he is turning the idea of landscape photography on its head and photographing the interior like its a landscape. These are cold unhuman spaces of modernity. This is the new ugly landscape, both outdoor and indoor, made by man. This is the new landscape.
I am not american so I don't understand the other subtle bits of information. But art is HOW you say something not what you say because everything is has already been said before. It is a matter of style really.
