Do YOU have a old beater of a camera with fucked up leatherette that you're too cheap and lazy to replace just to fuck it up again? Do YOU have an alcohol marker* lying on your desk and a spare 5 minutes?
If so, dab that shit over the worn spots to 'restore' it in a surprisingly effective manner! 'Pro' leather dye is just alcohol ink anyway, so you're just changing the application method. Dab it on the worn spots, don't just try and scribble over the whole thing thinking you'll catch all the high spots, it won't work well and you'll just have to go back over to dab all the bits that were missed anyway.
*I had a Pico deep-hole handy, a Sharpie will probably work too.
