Photography is not video-gaming. Gaming is entertainment, and you can drop whatever the hell you want on it. Photography is a discipline that has far more to do with skill. Ansel Adams shot many of his most iconic images on awful Cooke convertibles that no large format photographer would so much as touch today. Yes, the Sigma lens is sharper than your kit lens, and no, you won't see the difference unless you view your images at 100% and shoot only test benches. If the lens actually was defective, you would be seeing far worse results. Go take some pictures.
