The RP was their best shot, and they could only do that by using their old redundant sensor lab and using the Gillette razor economics model. And it still didn't work out, canon are bleeding market share.

Nikon bodies are all huge as they need to leave room for the mount and the space between the lens and grip. And there's nothing they can do to improve that.
Look at this shit, Nikon has less room on either side of the lens despite being MUCH bigger (520k mm3 vs 945k mm3, it's very nearly TWICE the size!)
