IIRC Kodak sold a bunch of their film manufacturing equipment when the went bankrupt in 2012.
Raising prices means they can invest that money into the film manufacturing equipment/be able to hire more workers. Then when they can keep up with demand they'll lower the prices back down.
Plus the more profit they make the more likely they would consider making new emulsions/bringing old ones back.
