I started off with a 20D, got the NEX-3 really cheap to use with manual lenses and despite how everyone else shits on it I enjoyed using it. It lacks controls but using Av and with an aperture ring on the lens it was doable. I was already invested in a fair amount of EF lenses though so ended up getting a 40D next. Wanted to go full frame mirrorless and the A7 classics were getting cheap and there wasn't really any competition unless I went newer and much more expensive.
Then came time for something newer and again nothing could match the A7R III for the price, especially factoring in the higher cost of lenses for other mounts and not to mention the hassle of having to sell what I already have. There's something to be said for Sony having been in the FF mirrorless game for over ten years.
And of course the RX100 is goated, don't really need to say much about that
