Here's how I edit my stuff, it takes 3 to 5 minutes per picture if I really get into it
For film I recommend creating a curve layer for your colours.
Move from R to G to B, playing with the settings, looking at specific things that depend a lot on these colours until they look right (or good)
Curve layer for light is a must to start, then I usually create one or two more curve layers which I inverse, so that I can "paint" light/shadows/contrast in specific spots
The Hue from Hue/saturation is also good sometimes, used very lighyly
Same for the color balance tool, very nice to quickly re-do the white balance from scratch
