Just an example is pic related, it is not even a very sharp lens.
As a headsup, a 1P-MPix is not noticable difference in sharpness.
The D7100 is 24.1MP (and 5 years newer)
The D700 is 12MP.
As you can see, the dramatic increase in resolution barely resolves more in practice because the lens is fairly soft. Even going to a 36MP D800 you would only get the marginal increase to 15 PMpix.
