>>3050633Provia 100f is a slide film. Slide film is much, much less forgiving than the more common negative film. With negative film, you can be overexposed by even 5 stops and under by 1.5 and get a perfectly usable image. With slide film you cannot be overexposed at all (the highlights lose all information and blow out), and it only has a small tolerance for underexposure.
Start out with a cheap colour negative film like Kodak Gold 200 / Colourplus 200, or Fujifilm C200/ Superia 400 or 200. These are very forgiving and the colours are wonderful.
This photo is from my first roll of film (Kodak Ultramax 400 I think). I didn't have a lightmeter, so I guessed. And as you can see, the photo came out fine
Don't bother with expensive film until 5 or 10 rolls deep into film photography
