My first digital camera was a Nikon Coolpix 7900, I still have it and it still works (just fired it up to make sure). Paid a premium too in my poor student days for it. It's laughable now if you were to look up its specs. But man if it's isn't an awesome little camera. It can fit the palm of your hand (an won't stick out, pic related doesn't really do the small size justice). It feels more like a toy nowadays compared to modern cameras, but just always having a camera with you that is fun to use, keeps you enthusiastic. I've always kept a soft spot for compacts after that. They got me into photography and, well, one of the key points that it should bring: you should be having fun.
