In composition it's all about resolving contradictions. Odd vs even, square vs circle, spiral vs triangle etc. Symmetry is pretty boring without context, order in chaos. Fractal geometry is also quite boring really, there's no point, no intent.
Look at the images you enjoy. It's easy to see the harmony that pleases you but harder to identify the dissonance that gives it substance.
tl;dr spirals and rectangles are cool
