Of course, when you reach a point of overall satisfaction with your pictures, but not quite there yet, you'll better find start selling your pictures and find a tutor asap. For instance, I contacted Sebastião Salgado, and he gave me some ideas on what to focus (subject-wise), and what was lacking (b/w developing technique). From a few letters, he gave me enough insight for two-years of working.
So, as you see, I telling you the whole story at once, but, in fact, to get something meaningful out of pictures takes a lot of time and some effort too. And, after all, sometimes you do get meaningful critique online, and that is by getting in touch with the photographers you admire. You know, photofags tend to be very likeable and open to share what they know, especially the older ones.
