my bad, I paid $315 for it, Summer 2018. I also got the FA-2 finder for it from KEH for $50, they called it 'ugly', but it works fine, diopeter dial is just a little torn up.

Few brands that were cool in their film days have made the transition to being cool in the digital age. I definitely count the Pentax brand among them. They have carved a niche within a niche, and created a reputation for excellent cameras despite not being one of the big 3.

Pentax DSLRs are the only cameras apart from Foveon sensor cameras that allow you to record full color data per pixel on still subjects with Pixel Shift. You might be telling yourself, "fuck that, I care about professional action photography, not still subjects" and even though you're not a professional action photographer, that would be a legitimate concern. That's why I say Pentax has carved a niche within a niche. If you want Pixel Shift, you -have- to buy a Pentax, there is no alternative.

Pentax cameras probably have the best ergonomics. They all feel so damn good in your hands. All the button and dials are where they should be. The menus are miles ahead of everyone else, to be honest. There are times when I become disappointed by Pentax's weak lens lineup (this is probably Pentax's biggest con), and I wonder if I should switch to Canon or Nikon for that delicious variety and cheap used lens market, but Pentax ergonomics are just too good to give up. Nothing is as comfy to use as a Pentax camera.

And while many manufacturers are starting to offer weather resistant bodies and lenses, few do it as well as Pentax. Now, they're not invincible, but they are rugged as fuck. If modern digital Pentax cameras aren't known for anything else, they're known for their ruggedness. They're like the IBM Thinkpads of cameras, and in my book, that's cool as fuck.
