I have a G1 and it's a great camera. I don't have the 35mm, as it's slightly more rare and pretty expensive, despite being my ideal focal length. I shoot with the 28mm and 45mm. 28 is good for street and all that. If you want a 35mm on the G1, you need to buy the green label version, which is modified to use that lens. Originally it was only launched with the G2.
Prices are going up, and the G2 body alone is as much as a G1 w/ lens. The AF is apparently better, but I've heard people say thats exaggerated. The G1 is fine. The manual focus is garbage though, so if you like to zone focus it might be annoying to use, but not impossible.
MJU is a great camera. I think something like that paired with a G1 w/ 45 is a nice combo. Both compact. MJU for quick snaps, G1 if you want a bit more control over your image.
