No one ever cared about that with film. So why do we with digital sensors?
There are many factors that can also impact sharpness too. If you're at the top of a building or in a plane, you're going to be shooting through a window, which might be dirty or have reflections in it.
And then of course atmospheric conditions can also be another factor, given fog exists, as does mist. Anyplace warm air comes into contact with cold air will also cause the light to refract differently through it, so... why bother worrying?
