It's just "okay" in terms of stability. Unlike the Manfrotto camera lens murder helpers, these can take a reasonable amount of carelessness and mistakes without tipping over.
But it is not nearly comparable to a good tripod anyways. You're even getting a bit of movement on a button press if you're not using a remote shutter.
I still very much like this thing because it's quick to set up and does not get in people's way nearly as much as a tripod might. but it does comes with aforementioned compromises.
