This is a proof of concept I'm trying to make, to see if what I want to achieve works the way I imagine it before I go traveling to some location to shoot the real deal.
I want to recreate the photo in the top right right corner. My camera doesn't have a double exposure mode, but I'm not sure if that picture was even made with that or just composited in post.
I took a tripod and took two pictures, one focused on the background with no subject, one with the subject focused on it. Then I overloaded both and cut out a subject shaped portion of the background shot. I thought I'd have to mes with layer modes, but by the looks of it I get the best result with just reducing the opacity and selective erasing some parts.
But I feel like mine still looks quite off, does anyone have any advice on how to improve it?
I think what I learned for the real thing is that it's quite important that the subject wears neutral colors, his blue t-shirt seems to be messing up the background colors a bit. Also headwear helps with shit masking around the head. Also It is essential to have an interesting background, the effect just doesn't pop as much, if the background is just visual noise like in my shot.
