Here, I'll do the experiment for you, because I'm feeling generous today.
I'll take the raw from dpreview and export it at various jpeg levels with Darktable version 2.6.3, no edits made just a straight export.

Lossy does not guarantee that your files will be smaller. That's why PNG is often used from small simple graphics online, because it compresses better.
