>>2897708Metering's a little funny. I don't feel as confident with matrix (Multi) metering on the Fuji in high contrast (shade and sun) scenarios. Is it the EVF or the results? A little bit of both. It's strange to see your highlights actually go to white in the viewfinder. Or your shadows become an inky see of data-less crud. It's not as bad once I get to image review at home, but there are some places where I feel the image data hasn't been optimally captured. My fault? Partly. The center-weighted meter seems to work best in my opinion. Of course, once cars are out of mixed lighting conditions, the EVF is nice to be able to see all of your colour and exposure settings live. You can see if your white balance is set correctly, and you can take a reasonable guess if your highlights are blowing out.
Handling: The Fuji's a pretty small camera compared to my D3100. The lenses are pretty small too. The physical controls are mostly nice, except for the dials. I like being able to simply select a mode, and having the control set, instead of twisting a dial all the way around to the A setting, then twisting the other dial to my preferred setting. SLRs evolved through the demand of professional photography, and the departure from the established ergonomics is utterly alien when the camera lands in my hands. Oh well.
