The lucky thing is the oligarchs here are not from the security/inteligence area, because thank to god military intelligence and ABIN call facebook stalking intelligence. they are just stupid old men that got powerfull and rich because of the good old boys club their fathers and their father`s fathers were in. Russia has this crazy pseudo bureaucratic clan landscape across all agencies and ministries that we lack (thankfully).
I couldn`t give a shit about the politics of it, I just go there because I want to learn to take pics. And protests here attract the kind of people OP was talking about, some pasty white fat guys that are afraid to take pictures and try to shoot without being noticed (like walking normally as if you had your camera turned off, but pressing the shutter etc). I try to talk and help people not get trampled. And the thing I`ve noticed, most left protest photographers are hot young chicks.
