If it's nightime, you can't see everything, and the photograph should reflect this imo. Do you think every shot should contain every bit of information in every part of the graph, even if you have to expose multiple times and do most of the work in post to bring out those "details"?
About the aperture, I couldn't do much more, it was a casual night out, not a photowalk, I didn't have much gear with me, just the basics, so aperture wasn't optional.
