Here is a line chart of Provia 100f at various contrast ratios (which usually is never done, only high contrast). Digital loses low contrast detail quicker than high contrast too.. but at high ISO when there is noise.
You can see how the clarity of the detail and contrast of the detail starts going down quickly at higher levels of detail even at the highest contrast target.
Digital retains clarity and contrast, so when you have a film and digital rated at or getting the same resolution, the /quality/ of the resolution is way higher on digital. Its clear and obvious vs a real struggle to see on film. CMS20 is more like digital and its crystal clear, though because its monocrystalline and also we dont even approach its potential limit.
On the example chart, you might say target 9 is the limit and just barely visible, which is around 77 lp/mm, which is 20mp in 35mm format. At the 4:1 contrast target which is more realistic, you might say target 7 is the threshold of visibility which is 60 lp/mm which is about 12mp. The target number will be lower if you want it to match the quality and contrast that digital holds onto near its sensor resolution limit.
CMS20 didnt have issue hitting 80mp for what its worth.
