For just having a look it should be fine all year round, you'll just have to walk an extra few kilometers since the snow plow doesn't go all the way up in winter.
There will be skiing to be had until the end of May at least if you go to the right places.
April is my favorite month for skiing trips because the days are long and nice, and all the snow has settled well making avalanche danger very low.
