There's plenty of ways to make an image interesting without a real subject. Geometry, colour blocking, light and dark, frames in frames, symmetry, etc, etc. use your time to try and focus in on these different methods, find which you enjoy using and work well in your shots, then apply these methods to every photo you take.
Things in real life look cool because of motion, scale, ambience and many other things that are completely lost as soon as they go into a photo, if something looks awesome in the real world, it will probably look like shit through a camera.
