I've been working on another single element lens. It is currently epoxy curing until tomorrow. It is the "finderscope" off an old telescope. I never ever used the finder scope since it was terrible, so I decided to put it to use. While the telescope in this image is googled, it is the exact model I have. The finderscope is that smaller scope on top. Once I had everything measured, I used a pipecutter on the finderscope's tube then epoxied it through a space camera body cap.
I cut the tube and positioned it in the cap so that when I place it on my macro bellows, it will focus a hair past infinity (so there is room for error). Now the working distance for it is about 30cm to infinity. The finderscope had a rubber insert aperture. I took it out and can replace it when I want clear photos without so much spherical aberration. The lens has very interesting CA that I might be able to put to good artistic use. I'll know more tomorrow when I can do more test shots, with and without the aperture.
The lens is fairly bright without the aperture (f/4.6) at infinity. With the aperture it is f/9.58 at infinity. Camera body caps and a bellows are great for DIY lenses like this. I need to pick up another pack of caps.
