That second photo I posted missed the focus a little bit scanning. I could definitely improve my scanning technique and setup. I'm just using magnets to hold the film and stacking books under my cellphone until it gets to the right focusing distance. It would have taken me just as long to scan the files on my old Epson. They would have needed a ton more post production work though.
Totally could have been user error with the scanner. I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy the camera scanning technique a lot more though.
