https://www.cambridgeincolour.com is a good resource if you know absolutely nothing about this. Generally the mm of a lens is how wide or zoomed in it is and the f-stop is how much light it will allow into the camera, generally the more light the more you have you can achieve a shallow depth of field (blurry background).
