It's VERY convenient and the only reason I'm moving on from my 1D.
Digital cameras have a lot more settings than any film camera does, so it becomes very time consuming when changing your settings to capture one type of subject to another.
Live view is the direct readout from the sensor displayed on the rear screen (in the case of DSLRs).
It helps with composition (nothing before the 80D in the xxD line have 100% VF coverage), exposure control and achieving critical focus (through magnified live view).
An electromagnetic shutter release is superior to a microswitch (used in the 40D and earlier) in that it's smoother and doesn't induce camera shake while being triggered.
It operates on the principle of electromagnetism by changing the induction properties of a coil winding while a microswitch uses a diaphragm or other physically resistive element that breaks over to allow the direct contact of two electric terminals.
