I only use UV filters for protection if I drop the camera or whatever. I use coloured filters for black and white occasionally

My original comment is comparing the F3 to a Leica.
A manual SLR like the F3 is no better than an M6 for wildlife or sports so I don't see why that's relevant. Even if it was the Visoflex exists which allows the use of Leica macro and tele lenses like the 65mm f/4 Elmar macro or 400mm f/5 Telyt on a Leica M body.
