Nothing older than 1987 if you want to use those, so the EOS-1 or newer. And those are... well, they're basically film versions of what you have now. Unless you get an adapter, like you mentioned.
If youre going to go the adapter route, id go with a Canon A-1, Canon AE-1 or a Minolta x700.maybe others can weigh in more, but ive used these three and really enjoyed them, the Minolta was my favorite.
